Disk (mathematics)

In geometry, a disk (also spelled disc) is the region in a plane bounded by a circle. A disk is said to be closed if it contains the circle that constitutes its boundary, and open if it does not.

A disk is the shadow of a ball on a plane perpendicular to the ball - radiant point line. The -disk for is called a ball, and the boundary of the -disk is a - hypersphere. The standard -disk, denoted (or), has its center at the origin and has radius.

The area inside a circle. Correctly speaking, a circle has no area (it is just the edge), but a disk does. But in practice people think of a circle as the edge or the enclosed space, or both. A disk is "closed" when it includes the bounding circle, and open if it does not.

Disk (mathematics) In geometry, a disk (also spelled disc) is the region in a plane bounded by a circle. A disk is said to be closed or open according to whether or not it contains the circle that constitutes its boundary.

Disk [ { x, y }, { r x, r y }] gives an axis-aligned elliptical disk with semiaxes lengths r x and r y. Disk [ { x, y }, …, { θ1, θ2 }] gives a sector of a disk from angle θ1 to θ2.

The disk method in calculus is a means to finding the volume of a solid that has been created when the graph of a function is revolved about a line, usually the x or y axis.

An -dimensional open disk of radius is the collection of points of distance less than from a fixed point in Euclidean -space. Krantz (1999, p. 3) uses the symbol to denote the open disk, and to denote the unit open disk centered at the origin. The open disk for is called an open interval, and the term open ball is often used for.

And the radius r is the value of the function at that point f (x), so: A = π f (x) 2. And the volume is found by summing all those disks using Integration: Volume =. b. a. π f (x) 2 dx. And that is our formula for Solids of Revolution by Disks. In other words, to find the volume of revolution of a function f (x): integrate pi times the square ...

$\begingroup$ Start with the fact that homeomorphisms map open sets to open sets. Take a point p in the interior--take it, please!--and consider its image h(p). The image of the interior of the disk D (i.e., an open disk) is an open set, so h(D) is also open, and h(p) is in h(D), which is open.

Euler's Diskis a scientific educational toy, used to illustrate and study the dynamic systemof a spinning diskon a flat surface(such as a spinning coin), and has been the subject of a numberof scientific papers. An optical ~that is created by a mastering process and used for reading informationand data only.

The disk method calculates the volume of the full solid of revolution by summing the volumes of these thin circular disks from the left endpoint a a a to the right endpoint b b b as the thickness Δ x \Delta x Δ x goes to 0 0 0 in the limit. This gives the volume of the solid of revolution: V = ∫ a b d V = ∫ a b π (f (x)) 2 d x.

In geometry, a disk (also spelled disc) is the region in a plane bounded by a circle. A disk is said to be closed if it contains the circle that constitutes its boundary, and open if it does not.
