Belle Vue Stadium


Belle Vue Stadium was a greyhound racing track in Belle Vue, Manchester, England, where the first race around an oval track in Britain was held on 24 July 1926. It has also been used for motorcycle speedway, as the home ground of Elite League team Belle Vue Aces from 1988 until 2015, and from 1999 until 2019 for stock car racing and banger racing.

Part of the world famous Belle Vue Zoological Gardens, Hyde Road first hosted our beloved shale sport on March 23, 1929. The stadium had an enviable capacity of 40,000 spectators with a 382-metre track, with unique bowed straights. It was this characteristic that inspired Chris Morton when he was designing the National Speedway Stadium 's circuit.

The National Speedway Stadium sits at the heart of Belle Vue's £11 million regeneration scheme, the stadium itself costing £8 million. Now the heart of Speedway in Great Britain, it is a regular host of high-profile national and international events every season.

The demise of Belle Vue Stadium. For over 40 years, Belle Vue Stadium stood proudly as the home of greyhound racing in Greater Manchester - ever since the Albion Greyhound Racecourse in Salford was forced to close in 1976. But sadly, in what has been a difficult year for many industries, Belle Vue has had to follow suit and shut its doors.

The Belle Vue was a tiny little ground that desperately needed replacing, and the shiny new Keepmoat Stadium is infinitely better. The stands were barely there and it was run down and out of date, but it will always have a lot of good memories for the locals that went there and supported their team.
